MINNEAPOLIS AUTHOR RELEASES NEW NOVEL ABOUT FAIRIES FOR “TWEENS”

(Edina, MN, December 7, 2008) – Minneapolis author, Susan Martinez, just released a new “tween” novel entitled, Skye Blue & the Fairies.  Writing for children and writing fiction is something entirely new for Martinez.  Her four previous books were serious self-help books for adults, including Last Call for Alcohol (Booklocker, 2004).

When asked why she switched genres so dramatically, Martinez replies, “When I became a grandmother, my two adorable granddaughters, Sophia and Shelby, completely changed my focus.  I lightened up and wanted to write about lighter topics.  What’s lighter than fairies?”  Martinez goes on to explain, “I created the character, Skye Blue, as a fun way to share my personal passion for paranormal things with my granddaughters.  Paranormal referring to things that defy scientific explanation, such as fairies, ghosts, angels, etcetera.”

In Skye Blue & the Fairies, Martinez states three reasons why children benefit from knowing about fairies.  (1) Fairies are protectors of Mother Earth.  They lure children outdoors to play and enjoy flowers, sunshine, wild life, trees, and fresh air.  Fairies may inspire children to be more environmentally kind and aware. (2) Fairies are beautiful creatures.  When they are depicted in art, children are naturally drawn to them.  Perhaps the beauty of fairies may inspire in children an appreciation for beautiful art and beauty, in general. (3) Fairies are light and playful and make children happy.  I’ve heard they will, like angels, watch over certain babies, befriend them, and entertain them with their silly antics.

Do you believe in fairies?  Maybe you might after reading this book. Skye Blue & the Fairies (Booklocker, November, 2008) is Book 1 in the Skye Blue Mystical Adventure Series (juvenile fiction, ages 10 and up).  It’s available at Amazon.com, bookstores, and libraries.  For more information about Susan Martinez, her books, or fairies, visit her website at www.skyebluebooks.com. ###
